What is Low Testosterone?

Low testosterone (low t) is a depleted level of a pertinent male sex hormone that occurs naturally in the body. Testosterone production increases during puberty and starts to decrease after the age of 30. For each year past 30 years old, the level of testosterone in men starts to slowly dip at a rate of around 1 percent per/year. The decrease in testosterone level is natural and a result of the aging process.

As men age, the body often produces less and less of this hormone, causing an array of unpleasant side effects. These side effects can take a serious toll on your body. As males enter middle age they may notice changes caused by a relative decline in testosterone. For instance, many men experience warning signs like fewer erections, insomnia, fatigue, thinning skin, loss of muscle mass and strength, and more body fat.

Males not producing enough of the hormone face a higher risk of several serious illnesses, including diabetes, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. Simply put, testosterone is responsible for everything that makes you strong, healthy, and powerful. Without testosterone, you’ll be mentally, physically, and emotionally weak frail.

What are normal levels of testosterone?

The average level of testosterone in a healthy male is around 679 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). If you’re having symptoms of low testosterone — like low libido, fatigue, depression, erectile dysfunction, or difficulty concentrating, you should book an appointment to get your testosterone levels checked. If your testosterone levels come back low, and you experience symptoms of low testosterone, you may be a candidate for testosterone replacement therapy.

When testosterone levels are back in the normal range, males can expect to feel many benefits in all aspects of life including:

  • Much higher energy levels
  • More confidence
  • Increased mood
  • Reduction in body fat
  • Gains in lean muscle mass
  • Increased sex drive and sexual function
  • Greater bone density
  • Less risk for heart disease
  • More mental clarity
  • Better sleep

What is Andropause?

Andropause, also known as male menopause, is the gradual decline in testosterone levels in middle-aged men. It’s often accompanied by physiological changes such as fatigue, decreased energy, and decreased sex drive. Males experiencing Andropause may have a number of symptoms related to the condition and could also be at risk of other serious health conditions without proper treatment.
